Panasonic KX-HCM10 - PTZ not working

Postby Jruys » Tue Jul 27, 2010 7:23 am

Greetings,

I've added my Panasonic KX-HCM10 camera which supports PTZ but when I add the camera in the iPad app (using the Panasonic profile) the video shows fine, but no PTZ or presets function. The camera has no username/pass set, anyone who browses to it can control the PTZ.

Am I doing something wrong? Anything I can debug?

Try entering this url in a webbrowser (replace IP and port with your camera's)

http://ip:port/Get?Func=Model&Kind=1&FuncMode=1

Send the resulting text back to me in this thread and I'll see why the PTZ functions aren't working. It "should" return a list of names and values if the firmware is up-to-date.

It returns an empty reply. Not a 404, no timeout, just blank. Also checked the returning HTML source, but also empty.

Checked the Panasonic website, but it looks like I'm already running the latest firmware (v.1.83).

Thanks for the camera link. I've investigated and it doesn't seem to respond to any of the standard CGI calls that other Panasonic models use. I have modified the app so that it will show the control button if no response comes from the device. This gives access to the controls and they work.

The side-effect of this change is that for some other people who don't have PTZ features the control button will now appear. It will be confusing but at least it won't break anything for them.

I'd expect this release to be out in 3 weeks (1 week for me to complete it and 2 for Apple to think about releasing it)

Would it be a thought to, when manually adding a camera, have a "force PTZ" tickbox? This would allow me to manually force the button to appear whilst preventing the confusion you describe.

Anyways thanks for the quick response!

I had actually considered that long ago but decided it would cause me a lot more support headaches. If the camera doesn't respond properly to the capabilities request then it (generally speaking) won't respond to the PTZ controls either. People would be constantly asking me why they can show the controls and press buttons but nothing happens :)

No winning situation either way, but I guess I chose to implement against the manufacturers specs as closely as possible to avoid confusion.

I'll have the features in version 4.40 (4.30 is still waiting for Apple to approve and I can't submit a new version until this happens).
